The foundations for Phalanx were established in 1996, when vocalist/guitarist Aaron Hall and bassist Brandon LaMarque began writing music together. In late 1997 they set out to form a three piece band with the help of drummer Keith Weber. Phalanx was officially formed in January 1998. Drawing from unique musical influences, they created a sound that includes hints of metal, alternative, and classic rock.
In late 1998, Phalanx began playing shows in and around Montgomery, AL. In January 1999, the group recorded their first studio demo in Gulfport, MS. Then, in September 1999, Phalanx headed to Zero Return Studios in Elmore, AL, where they created their high-energy debut cd. In February 2000, shortly following its January release, the cd was featured on the Local Hour on 95.1 Fox.
In June 2001, the band recorded its second full-length cd, "Scars". The cd, which exhibits Phalanx's more mature, melody-based sound, has received airplay on 95.1 Fox.
In early 2002, founding member Brandon LaMarque left the band for personal reasons. Locally renowned bassist Eva Roberts stepped up to fill the vacancy and the band is currently moving forward with new material.
